Voyageurs Add Hometown Defender Leo Villa

In a statement Thursday, the Green Bay Voyageurs announced their first defender and first Green Bay native to join their team for the inaugural season in Leo Villa. Villa, a junior at Marquette University, will join the team for the summer of 2019. The announcement was made Thursday by General Manager Dannon Anderson.

Villa returns to Titletown after helping to guide the Golden Eagles to a Big East Championship appearance in 2018. The 6-1 Junior netted one goal, started 15 of 16 matches played and averaged 81 minutes per match. Villa helped the Golden Eagles’ defensive unit secure five shutouts, a mark good for fourth in the Big East.

“I am delighted to have joined Green Bay Voyageurs FC.” Said Villa “It’s an honor to represent my hometown and I am extremely grateful for this opportunity. I am looking forward to this upcoming summer and having a successful season with my new teammates. I’m itching to get the summer started!”

Prior to joining Marquette, Villa played two seasons at UW-Parkside following a successful prep career during which he was named Green Bay Press Gazette Player of the Year in 2015.

“We are very happy Leo has decided to represent his home city this summer! We are confident Leo will be a presence in our backline defensively and catalyst to how we play out of the back,” said Head Coach Brian Kamler.

The Voyageurs’ first home game at Capital Credit Union Park is slated for Friday, May 31st at 7:00 against WSA Winnipeg. Season and group ticket packages are on sale now. To purchase tickets fans can call 920-497-7225 or email General Manager Dannon Anderson at Dannon@greenbayvoyageurs.com.
