Green Bay Voyageurs FC will take a break from USL League Two play this weekend, hosting Minneapolis City SC U23 at 7 pm on Wednesday, June 12 and the Wisconsin Primary Amateur Soccer League All-Stars at 7 pm on Saturday, June 15. Both matches can be streamed live at MyCujoo.TV.
GBVFC returns home after earning four points in the trip to Kansas this past weekend. On Friday evening the Voyageurs ended Kaw Valley FC’s undefeated stretch, defeating the cranes 2-1. Goaltender Jamison Yoder’s 77th minute penalty kick save proved to be the difference maker in the win. The following night, Alex Welch scored for the Voyageurs in the 1-1 draw with KVFC.
Welch continued to be the leader of the Voyageurs offense, netting goals in both contests. The Wales native leads the Heartland Division in goals. As a unit, the Voyageurs sit third in the Heartland Division with seven points, despite playing the fewest games among division foes.
With the four points, the Voyageurs maintained fifth in the Central Conference power rankings. Head coach Brian Kamler said the road trip was successful but maintains the focus on the week ahead.
“Picking up four points at Kaw Valley was a great result for our club. They are a very organized team with the way they play and are a very good team,” Kamler said. “I thought we had a good weekend and we will continue the cliche of taking one game at a time and keep trying to improve as we move along this summer.”
This week, the Voyageurs will face off with two opponents outside of USL League Two in Minneapolis City SC and the WPASL All-Stars. In the first meeting against MCSC, Ben Prange and Jaden Stevenson tallied goals for GBVFC in the 2-1 victory. On Saturday, the Voyageurs will play their final exhibition match of the season against the WPASL All-Stars. The Wisconsin Primary Amateur Soccer League began play in 2019 and is based in six communities in Western Wisconsin.
Next week GBVFC returns to league play hosting Kaw Valley FC for a pair at Capital Credit Union Park. Matches are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 20 and Saturday, June 22.
